The Watch Corp...Has anyone used these on line sellers...I bought a Hugo Boss watch for my grandsons 18th birthday...it arrived to him today...the box etc looks genuine but the watch had a kind of cling film wrapped around it and the second hand was jumping 2 seconds not one...It seems genuine but the second hand movement indicates the battery is low..I would have thought the watch would not be running until it gets started buy the owner...The watch as a 2 year warranty and looks ok but I now have doubts...I have obviously contacted them and await their reply...Just wondered if they do not replace it free of charge with no return postage costs too me...where do I stand legally....I paid with a credit card...Any advice will received gratefully...It cost £169 delivered...Thanks Eddie

Update:....
Hello Edward,

Thanks for getting in touch. First and foremost I am sorry about the battery being on its way out.
That said, should it be convenient for you if you take the watch to any high street watch retailer or jewellers and have the battery changed, we will cover the cost of the battery up to a maximum of £20 (since it shouldn't cost any more than that to change a battery). Please make sure to choose the standard battery option and not a lifetime battery since this will exceed £20. Once this has been done, if you simply attach a copy of the receipt in response to this e-mail, we will reimburse you accordingly. Regarding the alleged cling film covering the face of the watch, this is not true. These are plastic seals provided by manufacture in order to protect the face of the watch just like how there are seals to the strap of the watch. Additionally, please note that Hugo Boss now no longer provide manuals with their watches as part of there cost cutting plans and advise customers to refer to manuals that can be access online.

Kind Regards,

Somehow this does not seem right. I've looked on Google and from a number of sites offering replacement batteries for Hugo Boss watches the standard price seems to be £65.95 which includes the battery and resealing the watch to preserve the watertight characteristics. There are some companies offering this service a little cheaper but at the end of the day you get what you pay for from a reputable company. Strange that the battery is that low on an allegedly new watch that the second hand jumps 2 seconds, this is normal on a watch with a low battery, plus it was wrapped as you mentioned in cling film and not a plastic seal as the company suggests. I just wonder if this has been a returned watch being passed off as new by the company. Under current UK distant selling regulations you have the right to return the watch and claim a full refund within 14 days or ask for a replacement. The law also states the company must reimburse the consumer all the monies they have paid including any delivery costs. The law states the following for returning a faulty item, which this watch is as it does not work correctly due to a low battery, 'If you request a refund you will be able to recover the original cost of postage of delivery and return. If you request a replacement then the seller will have to pay for the cost of returning the faulty goods and sending the replacement goods to you'. Hope this helps a little, best of luck whichever way you go, personally I would not have a third party opening an allegedly brand new watch to change a battery as it may not be resealed correctly and subsequently always water to get into the mechanism but ask for a full refund or replacement quoting the Online & Distant Selling Act.

I hear what you are saying and agree with it...however by Grandson wants to keep it and go down the getting a battery from a reputable jewellers / watchseller in Ascot High Street during the week..
